EXPERIMENTS FOR PACKAGING APPLICATIONS

Biomaterial Exploration
Packaging Design

Objective
Exploring bio-materials as a sustainable option that is appropriate and accepted for luxury packaging for the beauty industry while also dramatically reducing packaging waste and its negative impact on our environment.

Why?
According to Zero Waste Week, the beauty industry is currently producing around 120 billion packaging units globally, contributing to 1/3 of the plastics found in global landfills. Within my research, I found that we are currently producing 300 million tonnes of plastic waste every year, and 20% of that waste is mostly packaging and printed paper.

Even though luxury packaging is just a small part of the packaging industry, the environmental impacts will have long-lasting effects.

Brand Application
As the EU Commission aims to make all packaging placed on the EU market reusable or recyclable by 2030, I wanted to help La Mer, an ocean-inspired luxury skincare brand, rethink its packaging materials.
