ILLUME
STICKLESS REED DIFFUSER
The Brief
To rebrand an existing product and create a refillable system. My interest in evolving traditional stick diffusers lead me to a unique existing brand that designs conventional reed diffusers, candles, and fragrances called ILLUME.
The Approach
After a brand audit, their traditional reed diffuser stood out from the rest of their products. The aesthetic of their reed diffuser felt inconsistent with the rest of their designs. The diffuser redesign aimed to create a product that would improve customer experience through memorable design, unifying into the current ILLUME's design attributes.
INSPIRATION
& MATERIALS
A combination of mountain roads: Tianmen Mountain Road in China, Los Caracoles Pass in Chile, and Sani Pass in South Africa inspired the overall design features. The customized slanted angles feature a unique road creating a 360° display that can be a design attribute used in future line extensions.
The new and refined essentials reed diffuser comes in two parts:
The hollow top that consists of a blend of Rattan and sintered Porex, a polymeric fiber that allows selective transmission of liquids. The second is the essentials oil body, made of white ceramic.
The base is made out of recycled ceramic tiles.
